The Super Simple 3-Step Pretreatment Routine for Lash Extensions
There are many lash extension Pretreatment routines out there and we even recommend several routines based on the products you have purchased or if you are in a time crunch. But, what is some of the best practise when it comes to Pretreatment and how can you achieve the best lash extension retention with just three easy steps?
To cut a long story short, how you complete your pre-treatment has as much of an effect on the retention of the lashes as the Glue you use. It can be the difference between 2 weeks of retention, and 5 weeks of retention, so it is very important to get it right - the happier the client, the better for you!
We’ve all been there, we tell our clients "No mascara between lash sets and come to your appointment without any makeup on your eyes!" and then, unsurprisingly, some clients show up 10 minutes late with glitter eyeshadow all over those glue bonds. You’re screaming inside. But don't worry, this is where this is when you hand over the bottle of Foam Cleanser and direct them to the bathroom.
Having your client do the first thorough wash of their own lashes gives you time to make any last minute preparations to your work station - have you got everything you need?
Most importantly, they know how hard they can press and not be uncomfortable, therefore it tends to be more thorough, there are no "Am I pressing too hard" doubts on your behalf. It is also a gentle reminder that the responsibility for clean lashes is on the client.
The London Lash 3 Step Pre-treatment Routine:
Step One is our Protein Remover Pads - these are tiny but effective. If there are some remnants of mascara in between those lashes, or some makeup or oils around the eye area, you can go in with one of these super soft little pads to clean up. If you’re doing an infill, just make sure to avoid the glue bonds as the fibres can get caught!.
Top Tip! The protein remover pads have a lot of product in them - if you want to use all that goodness, take a Microfibre Brush, press down onto the top pad and voila. No risk of glue bond damage, and of course all the fantastic qualities of your protein remover pads.
Step Two of the golden trio is Cleanser. "But they’re clean!" I hear you say. Sure, but Cleanser has a high alcohol content which gets rid of EVERYTHING - any oils, any residue from the foam cleanser, any little tiny traces of makeup will be gone.
Step Three is Primer. It’s a MUST after Cleanser because it puts moisture back into the lashes after the high alcohol content of the Cleanser. It gets the lashes primed and ready to have extensions glued onto them. For an extra touch of luxury, why not go for one of our scented Cleansers and Primers? It’s a little thing, but the scent Cherry or Coconut can take your client’s experience from an 8 to a brilliant 10.
What's Next?
Now for the delicate parts - when should you use Booster? - Is it always necessary?
Booster, is like the bonus level in a fun game, it's perfect for those clients with more oils. It has higher alkalinity which opens up the hair cuticles and gives the glue more surface area to grab onto. If your client has oily skin and has struggled with retention due to this, Booster will absolutely save their lashes. This effect will be true for all lashes, of course, but you’ll find it makes the most noticeable difference for your oily babes. So yes, while this may seem like Step 4 in your routine, it isn't necessary for all clients but it will provide longer retention due to its effectiveness.
So now you know, Pretreatment really does make a difference. It cleans your client's lashes, provides a fresh surface for the glue and prolongs retention of lashes to leave your clients happy.
