Take Five: Why Leaving Time Between Clients is Good for You, and Good for Business.

We can understand the temptation to squeeze in back-to-back clients and make use of every available minute in a day, but what if we told you that you’re actually not doing yourself any favours by not leaving yourself any time in between clients?

Here are four reasons it’s important to leave yourself at least ten minutes in between each client.

    Get Moving

The first reason is simply so that you can move about a bit. Even if you start out each lash set sitting up with lovely posture, the likelihood is that you end up hunched over, staring intently at those tiny little lashes.

Taking time between each appointment to stretch and move around a bit will make a huge difference to how your body feels at the end of each day, the end of the week, and ultimately has an impact on how long you can actually have a career as a Lash Technician.

    Fix Up, Look Sharp

Okay, this is work related so doesn’t count as a break—you should take regular breaks too, by the way—but it just gives you time to reset your lash trolley before your new client arrives. Throw away any disposables, give your tweezers a good clean and make sure everything you need is nicely laid out on your lash trolley for easy access. If the bin is full, change the bag and make sure the full bag is out of sight, if you don’t have time to get rid of it completely.

Give all of your hard surfaces a little wipe down so that everything looks nice and clean and smells fresh. If it’s a regular client and you know what you’re doing with their lashes already, you can even get the lashes ready for them.

    Rest and Recharge

Have a quiet sit down away from your workstation. Make sure to rehydrate, and have a snack to keep your blood sugar levels up, and to stop your stomach from rumbling in your client’s ear!

Being well hydrated and well nourished will prevent you from feeling super sleepy while you’re working, and will give you the energy you need to keep going.

Taking the time to look at things further away will also be beneficial for your eyes, which can feel tired and can even become strained if you spend all of your time focusing on those tiny little details.

    Prepare for Every Eventuality

We’re big advocates for only lashing for the time that you book a client for in the event that they’re late, but sometimes a client will come in with more lashes than you were expecting, or something will happen that’s beyond your—and their—control, and you might just need an extra five or ten minutes to ensure that they leave happy.

Rather than eat into your next client’s appointment, having that extra little buffer of a 10-15 minute gap between clients will just save you from rushing and feeling flustered, and potentially having an unhappy client on your hands.

All things considered, while those fifteen minutes might seem superfluous and like time you could possibly fit another client into when they’re all added up, those gaps will help to keep you comfortable, relaxed, and your appointments running smoothly!
